Ruth Osborne, known as the "Long Marston Witch," was a tragic victim of superstition and fear. In 1751, she was accused of witchcraft in Long Marston, England, after a local publican claimed she had cursed his cattle. A mob gathered to punish her, subjecting her to a brutal "ducking test" in a nearby pond. Sadly, Ruth Osborne did not survive the ordeal, becoming the last recorded witch to be executed in England.

Hidden by the yew trees is an old church tower dating back to about the 15th century. It is a remnant of the 12th century Chapel of All Saints, Long Marston. In fact it was a Chapel of Ease; providing a local place of worship, easing the burden for local people who would normally have to make the long walk to the parish church at Tring. You can cross the River Ouzel here on a wooden bridge by cycle or rest as the Picnic Bench and if you are very lucy see a Kingfisher

Open Sundays 10:00 - 12:30 to see the sails turning (WIND DEPENDENT). Quainton Windmill is 191 years old and sits proudly above the Village Green. There are fewer than 40 working windmills in the UK and so it is truly a sight to behold. The mill is fortunate in having much of its original machinery enabling grain to be ground. When I called approx 2mths ago the pub and cafe were closed with board posted. It is possible some one else may be found to to reopen it....

This is a wonderful section of running along a gravel path that squeezes between the Grand Union Canal and Marsworth Reservoir. The views along this stretch are simply superb, they feature colourful canalboats, flowing reeds, and lakeside bathers making the most of the sunshine.

Great views of Aylesbury Vale and towards the Chilterns

From Ledburn to Marsh Gibbon and back (50 miles) with this cafe just over half away around. A welcome stop just before the two long hills into Whitchurch and Cubblington. A great place to stop and refuel! Good coffee, good food, friendly staff, pretty village and just as important, friendly locals!

The coffee shops at the George & Dragon and at Quainton Railway Centre are both recommended.

Cannot access Quainton directly from the A41 along Station Road as the road is closed due to ongoing EWR works.

A nice spot to rest the legs or dodge a shower. As well as admiring the restored thatch and ancient tree. Walk a few yards for some expansive countryside views

A popular cycling cafe adjacent to the pub. Sit inside, in the courtyard on on the green.

Often busy with children feeding ducks, walkers enjoying the canalscape or moored boats heading to Tesco Supermarket or the town. If you want a quicker route take Vimy Road or one of the cycle paths ether side of the River Ouzel

Sadly no views of Wellstone Reservoir here. if you are looking for Mead's Farm Shop & Tea Room head west.

The village green is pleasant spot to rest a while. The Pump House and Clock Tower (which has become the symbol of the village) was built in 1873.
