개인적으로 멋진 라이딩이었습니다. 10km를 달리면서 멋진 풍경을 감상했습니다.

Really interesting history of crime and punishment in St Albans. You can buy refreshments in the cafe and then go and eat them in the historic old courtroom. You can also go downstairs to the old cells and into the museum, where there is an excellent history of crime and punishment. There is a place to lock bikes up outside 🚴🏼‍♂️

Cafe Aroma is a nice little cafe where you can get a quality All Day Breakfast for less than a tenner (as at Oct 24). There's also cakes and quite a wide-ranging lunch menu. I like to sit in the little outside area looking onto the street and watch the world go by. The cafe is on quite a busy road in the centre of Southdown. There is an area nearby to lock up bikes 🚴🏼‍♂️

Note that the line runs well below street level and thus needs to be accessed by a longer flight of stairs at this entry point. With a bikepacking load, a better alternative seems to be a ramp on Ambrose Lane, which I only discovered in hindsight.

Sit on the bench by the x3 statues, savour the views and watch the cattle strolling about and eating!

3 statues celebrating 3 local heros: Capability Brown designed the River Lea lakes on the valley bottom and the landscape on the other side of the valley, all part of the Luton Hoo estate; Eric Morecambe who lived in Harpenden (the route connects Luton & Harpenden) and used to go bird watching in the are; the Sea Scout celebrates the long-established Sea Scout troop based on the shore of the Lea lakes

l find that the hill leading to Luton Hoo gets the heart pumping and the legs working without totally beasting myself, so good for building fitness, without making the ride a misery!!
