Ruth Osborne, known as the "Long Marston Witch," was a tragic victim of superstition and fear. In 1751, she was accused of witchcraft in Long Marston, England, after a local publican claimed she had cursed his cattle. A mob gathered to punish her, subjecting her to a brutal "ducking test" in a nearby pond. Sadly, Ruth Osborne did not survive the ordeal, becoming the last recorded witch to be executed in England.

Hidden by the yew trees is an old church tower dating back to about the 15th century. It is a remnant of the 12th century Chapel of All Saints, Long Marston. In fact it was a Chapel of Ease; providing a local place of worship, easing the burden for local people who would normally have to make the long walk to the parish church at Tring. An railway bridge with history. 1963 great train robbery

Often busy with children feeding ducks, walkers enjoying the canalscape or moored boats heading to Tesco Supermarket or the town. If you want a quicker route take Vimy Road or one of the cycle paths ether side of the River Ouzel

This scenic section with a lock segment is popular with walkers and cyclists heading from Leighton Buzzard Town to the Globe Inn. Twelve Arches Weir (originally built with 12 arches, later expanded to 15) discharges overflow water from the Grand Union into the River Ouzel - quite an impressive sight after heavy rain.

This segment of the canal is quite rural in character despite being close to Linslade/Leighton Buzzard. You will often see Heron's waiting patiently and if you approach quietly you stand a good chance of getting close.

Tarmacked cycle path and footpath that crosses the Grand Union Canal via a repurposed railway bridge. Also with access to the cycle friendly Grand Union Tow path.

From this point on the Grand Union Canal you can take the linking cycle path to the River Ouzel Cycle Trail (https://www.komoot.com/highlight/2852096) or follow the Grand Union Canal. Both are well surfaced and suitable for walking or cycling. Along side the express bus lane there is a biek path that takes you out of Luton to Dunstable.

The west end of this double track is a short, sharp hill. There are plenty of gaps in the hedge along the way, to get to the motte and bailey.

This was recently resurfaced, and is thus a pleasure to ride.

This is the bridge where, in the early hours of the 8th August 1963, £2.6 million was famously stolen from a Royal Mail train travelling from Glasgow to London.

Hidden in the trees at the end of Chapel Lane, the main body of the church was deemed unsafe and pulled down in 1883. There's a quaint thatched cottage next door.
