Fine remote summit that feels a long way from anywhere.

A high mountain with reasonable length walk-ins. Good scrambling route on it's north side that gives fine views of the 'Balck Ladders' cliff face.

Carnedd Llewelyn is high and relatively remote, so walks there are quite a serious undertaking.

Carnedd Llewelyn, also spelled Carnedd Llywelyn, is a mountain massif in the Carneddau range in Snowdonia, north-west Wales. It is the highest point of the Carneddau and the second highest peak by relative height in Wales, 49th in the British Isles and lies on the border between Gwynedd and Conwy.

Wales' fourth highest summit has plenty of mountaineering interest at the head of Cwm Pen-llafar. At the head of the valley, a fine grade I winter ridge, the Llech Ddu Spur, rises towards the summit. To the east of this are the cliffs of the Ysgolion Duon, the Black Ladders, home to more challenging winter ascents.

Very nice place to visit. Stunning views and generally a great location for a chill once up there.

Carnedd Dafydd at 3,425 feet (1,044 m) is the second-highest peak in the Carneddau range and one of the Welsh 3000s. It's a vast rocky summit with great views. Once you reach the summit area it's quite runnable but the climb up from Ogwen or anywhere else is steep and tough.

At 610m Tal y Fan is the northern most outlier of the Carneddau mountains. The trig point on top gives wonderful views into Snowdonia National Park or north and out to sea. It's a great little mountain, off the beaten track and with a wild feeling.

Foel-fras is probably most notable as the final (or first) summit of the Welsh 3000s – the challenge of conquering all 15 of the region's peaks above 3,000 feet (914 m). The quiet summit gives extensive views out towards the coast and the Conwy Estuary.

Pen yr Helgi Du is a fine summit to the southeast of Carnedd Llewelyn. It stands high above wild Cwm Eigiau and the beautiful Ffynnon Llugwy reservoir. Its summit is linked to Carnedd Llewelyn via the narrow ridge at Bwlch Eryi Farchog. The traverses takes you above the mighty cliffs of Craig yr Ysfa, which are popular with rock climbers.

Carnedd Llewelyn is the second highest peak in Wales. It is also very rugged, as is the whole Carneddau range which was shaped by the last Ice Age. Legend has it that the two small lakes nestling below the towering cliffs to the east of Carnedd Llywelyn were haunted and that deformed fish with heads but no bodies lurked in their depths. If you are lucky you may see the Welsh Poppy which can withstand the elements.
