The Old Windmill in Stanbridge is a striking, unmissable landmark for cyclists and walkers. This Grade II listed, early 19th-century red brick tower mill has had its cap, sails, and gear removed as it's been converted into a private home. It offers a great photo opportunity, but please view this unique, historic residence respectfully from the road or public footpaths only.

As you turn off Dagnall Road, get into a low gear and take it easy. You don't want to be going into the red before the twisty steep bit, as it feels really narrow and if you put your foot down it might be hard to get going again.

A local back lane through the Hamlet of Clipstone.. It is tarmacked and prone to potholes after a winter. Clipstone is a small hamlet just outside Leighton Buzzard. It was first recorded in the records as Clapeston in the 1190s. The name is considered to be part Old English and part Scandinavian. This means it may date to the Danish invasions of the 8th and 9th Centuries! The first part of the name (Clip) comes from the Scandinavian name Klyppr and the second part (ton) means town, settlement or enclosed farm. Therefore, the name means Klyppr's settlement. As usual, we don't know who Klyppr was but he must have been an important man to have a settlement named after him!

As well as a historic church it has some handy benches in the church yard or adjacent park if you are in need of rest or a bite to eat

The tool station is a useful addition

Ranked in "Ten of the best cycling climbs in the Chilterns" by RCUK. One of Central Bedfordshire Cycle Repairs stations has been installed. The station includes a stand to mount a bike on, an integrated multi-valve pump and a series of tools, such as screwdrivers, spanners, hex keys, and tyre levers.

A generally good surface with views across wooded farmland with some fast gentle descents and ascents.

The road is set back from the best views, as the road levels out look for gaps that provide access to the best views of the Downs and Vale

Meeting point for Leighton Buzzard Road Cycling Club (http://lbrcc.com/) and a monument to Leighton Buzzard's history. This work of art, by David Mayne, was officially unveiled September 2005 and has the title of 'Fly Past'. The monument is approximately 8 feet high and 8 feet wide and the design depicts the heritage of the town to the present day. The centre of the design represents the propeller of a Vimy bomber biplane which were constructed until 1919 at the Morgan & Co. factory at Vimy Road (i.e. the land where the current Tescos supermarket is sited). Surrounding the propeller are a number of disks, each of which carry designs (on both sides), representative of the towns heritage (see photos below). The designs on these disks were the result of workshops with the pupils of Leighton Middle School, the Leighton Buzzard Arts Society and the residents of Tudor Court. A circular ring of carved paving runs around the base of the monument containing the name of the town at various different points in history.

I great place to pause a while and admire the chalk stream and ponds . The ford crosses the River Ouzel which rises from chalk springs in the Chilterns. Close by are Edlesborough Mills which are disused combined water and wind powered mills.

A fun descent, if ascending you get some great views of Ivinghoe Beacon and surrounding hills

beware you brakes get very hot by the time you get to the bottom.. allow extra braking time when you come to stop at the end.

Smiles all round, great place to take a pit stop and refuel
