beautifully restored weighing house in Ebwersweier

In 1903, the weighbridge was constructed as a corrugated iron building; the cost of approximately 1,600 Marks was financed by the pro rata annual surplus of the Durbach, Ebersweier, and Nesselried savings banks. For 40 years, the weighing service has been provided by Klothilde Knopf, the weighmaster. Wendelin Eckert is her deputy. The scales were rebuilt in 1962. The attractive weighbridge was built free of charge by local master craftsmen. Beets, fruit, potatoes, straw, hay, manure, and even livestock are weighed. The weighbridge was restored in 2013 by a hiking group led by Willi Brüderle. The weighbridge is still the only public municipal scale in the Offenburg area.

Beautiful inn on the Durbacher Gebirger Höfe-Weg with good food and a well-kept ambience. In the summer months there is lovely outdoor seating right next to the rushing stream and with a view of the adjacent game reserve.
