Box wood was THE preeminent place to bury bodies in the 80s. It was deserted and very few people ever explored all of it. That changed with the building of Great Ashby in the late 90s though and most were dug up and burned in the large pit. You can still find bone fragments to this day

The heart of historic Hertford with it's castle and old inn at the gateway to London proper. Great place to stop and take a look around.

It is actually possible - and permissable - to cycle through the grounds of Hertford Castle.

Really enjoyed visiting Hertford Castle. Feels like stepping back in time to the days of William The Conquerer!! 🚴🏼‍♂️

The Hertford Viaduct crosses the River Mimram just south of the town. It was constructed in 1915 to carry the London North Easton trains.

Tewin is a beautiful little village nestled between Welwyn Garden City and Herford. It is a quintessential English village with not one but two scenic village greens, a village shop, and even two pubs. Saint Peter's church forms the religious fulcrum of the village, while the Memorial Hall forms the social hub of the hamlet, unless you like your pint of Guiness, and if that's the case, the social hub will be one of the two pubs!

The Cole Green underpass allows the NCN61 cycle trail to pass under the busy A414.

Off-road trail from Raffin to Watton at Stone through woods, fields and along farm tracks, Can be muddy in winter and after heavy rain.

Compact gravel and dirt which can be done on road bikes if not raining. Ok if it's wet, but if it's raining or just after a rain, it can be tricky on slick tires as it can gets slippery.

I haven't tried riding through the river

Tewin is a pretty Hertfordshire village with a chocolate box charm. It features a village shop, pub and idyllic village green.

Great place to exit and go through Letty Green across the A414 down Panshanger Lane and into Panshanger Park which takes you through fields woods and by lakes to Hertford.

Supposed to be built backwards, whatever that means! A quiet spot to stop for a break and enjoy the view.

The historic Hertfordshire county town, Hertford dates back to the 10th century and is nestled at the confluence of no less than four rivers: the Lea, Mimram, Beane and Rib. The town is home to the Norman Hertford Castle, which is Grade II-listed. Hertford is the starting point of the New River Path and also features on the Hertfordshire Way and Lea Valley Walk long-distance trails. There is a plethora of amenities and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.
