Peering over the fence is the former station building (now a house) which closed in 1964. The fence is actually sat on top of the platforms, whose brickwork can be seen through the vegetation.

Can see the well preserved platforms from the former station which closed in 1962. Today provides convenient seating, parking, and bike access to the excellent Cole Green Way route.

This shouldn't be a Road Cycling Highlight

The heart of historic Hertford with it's castle and old inn at the gateway to London proper. Great place to stop and take a look around.

Very easy flat ride but lovely and quiet.

It is actually possible - and permissable - to cycle through the grounds of Hertford Castle.

Really enjoyed visiting Hertford Castle. Feels like stepping back in time to the days of William The Conquerer!! 🚴🏼‍♂️

The Hertford Viaduct crosses the River Mimram just south of the town. It was constructed in 1915 to carry the London North Easton trains.

Verulamium Park consists of 100 acres (40 hectares) of beautiful parkland close to the centre of St Albans. It hosts a load of facilities and also holds Roman architectural remains by way of the old city walls and the outline of London Gate. This is the Westiminster Lodge entrance, and there is car parking nearby.

Like that the national route marker has been painted with different colours- makes it stand out

When you come out the door of St Alban's City station, turn immediately right, to join the route. The cycleway goes over a bridge, along a pathway and then left through an arch into a housing estate, it is not instinctive, it eventually drops down onto the Alban Way, then turn left!

There is a park on the left, and the galleria if you go straight

There is a BMX track near too

Compact gravel and dirt which can be done on road bikes if not raining. Ok if it's wet, but if it's raining or just after a rain, it can be tricky on slick tires as it can gets slippery.

Lovely coffee and a great choice of cakes just over the bridge from the towpath. Nice peaceful spot with nil need to lock up the bikes.
