Great Greenway and access to the Wye Valley from Chepstow side via Tintern. Some limited parking over the opposite side of the A48 opposite the dive center. Direct access onto the greenway. Ex railway line.

The original Severn Road Bridge was completed in 1966 and replaced the old ferry. It's a suspension bridge with a span of 3,240 ft (988 m). Originally it carried the M4, but after the new bridge was completed it changed to the M48. The Severn Road Bridge has wide pavements on either side, separated by barriers from the carriageway. It's noisy, but it's also quite fun to walk or ride across.

The tunnel is closed from 1 April to 30 September (and every night during the opening period, at different times depending on the date). Pedestrian and cycle diversions are signposted 1400 m from the Tintern entrance. For cyclists (gravel) : take the good carriageway to Tidenham Chase and then the B4228.

Cycling over the Severn Bridge is a scenic and memorable experience, with the bridge crossing the Severn Estuary and connecting South Gloucestershire in England to Monmouthshire in Wales. It's part of the National Cycle Route 4, and cyclists are permitted to use the footpath/cycleway located on the northern side of the bridge. It opened in 1966 and replaced earlier ferry services. It was a key engineering feat of its time, featuring a suspension design, and remained the primary crossing until the opening of the Second Severn Crossing in 1996.

There aren't any really good ways out of Chepstow (or into it for that matter) but I've found this to be the most pleasant, even over the Meadow Walk switchbacks. Often narrow and winding, if you have wide panniers it may be an issue.

A windswept stopping point for migratory birds, the area is much-loved by residents, birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists and offers incredible views north to the second Severn Crossing and south to the Avonmouth docks – Bristol's maritime portal to the rest of the world.

Severn Beach is a village on the Severn Estuary in South Gloucestershire, England. The eastern portal of the Severn Tunnel is on the outskirts of the village. The Severn footpath – on the sea wall – is part of the Severn Way that leads from Gloucester, Slimbridge and the Second Severn Crossing. Extensive sea defences have been constructed and this provides a popular walkway along its length. Originally, the Severn Way finished at Severn Beach, but it has been extended to Bristol.

An exciting stretch of smooth, spooky, splendid cycle track! Make sure you check when the tunnel opening and closing times are each season, as they do vary.

After a long closure, the new bridge is finished and open to traffic.

Fabulous valley section with some little leg burners to keep you honest. Steepest section is back up to Hazelcote Lane.

Pretty little village with some rough and ready lanes around it to get your teeth into.

The name says it all, down through the woods and out into a beautiful valley. It's technically a road, but the first descent from Kingscote is very potted and gravelly - take care!

Lovely quiet roads, and if you've just come up from the edge of the Cotswolds, a welcome respite from climbing. Open so can't get blustery on the wrong day.
