Historic Warwickshire town. Many places to stop for food and drink, or just a look around.

The Hall was built in the reign of Charles I and throughout its chequered history has seen calamitous events including being extensively damaged from a gunpowder explosion in 1643. Just over a century later the Hall was actually pulled down but re-built the following year. In 1863 major alterations resulted in a Hall very much as you see it today. Ill fate dogged it again in 1946 when fire, started from a cigarette, completely gutted the beautifully proportioned Ballroom, when a valuable painting by Gainsborough of David Garrick was destroyed. The Town Hall houses many interesting and historic paintings and treasures and it is unsurprising that today smoking is definitely not permitted. Very nice. Often stop here as it’s on my 30 miler round trip. Wonderful granola/flapjack full of cranberry, pumpkin seed etc. plus everything you expect in a good farm shop.

Originally a medieval church, St Giles has been added to throughout the centuries. The nave and chancel are thought to date from the 13th century, the tower from the 14th century, the north aisle from the 17th century. Most recently, the south aisle was constructed in 1842, and the vestry in 1885.

Great views over the racecourse from the Greenway. Nice benches so you can sit and admire the view or even watch the racing if you are very lucky.

Quirky converted train carriage that's a great little cafe. Well placed on the Stratford-upon-Avon Greenway just outside Stratford. Closed on Mondays but open 9am to 4pm every other day.

Following Piddle Brook along Village Lane - a quiet country road to Abbots Morton. Lots of footpaths in the area, and wide open level countryside.

Nice quiet stop for a brew and some cake.
