The cottages are known as Parliament Cottages because William III is said to have held a meeting with his supporters here before traveling on to Berry Pomeroy Castle. A stone in the front garden states: "William Prince of Orange is said to have held his first Parliament here in November 1688." The cottages consist of two adjoining buildings from the 17th century, with additions from around the 18th century to the northeast and southwest. They are made of rendered stone rubble and cob, with a thatched roof featuring both gabled and hipped ends. The buildings are two storeys high. The original part, located in the center, has a four-window range with a large rendered chimney stack on the front wall and a glazed door to the right. Most of the windows are three-light casements with glazing bars from the 18th century. The northeast wing is at a right angle to the main structure and has a chimney stack at the gable end. The southwest wing features a large external stone rubble chimney stack at the gable end and a 20th-century extension to the west, also with a thatched roof. Totnes is a small market town in South Devon, next to the River Dart. Here you can explore the narrow, bustling streets with lots of independent shops and cafés.

Bike racks close by with outdoor seating. A great pit stop along the way to dartington & beyond.

The Yew in the churchyard of St Mary & St Gabriel is thought to be between 1,000 and 2,000 years old. The carved wooden slices are from a Leyland Cyprus, they depict the important church events that would have happened in the last 2,000 years.

Excellent country pub with a very good menu. They also do a snacky bar menu and a nice selection of drinks. Well worth a visit.

The Curator Cafe is a great artisan coffee shop in Totnes. They roast and sell coffee beans (or ground) as well as great mugs of coffee, cake, and light meals. Some outside seating and plenty of inside seating. Very friendly.

Ultimate local pub recommendation: The Hole in the Wall, self-promoted as the oldest pub in Brighton. It is said to have existed since 1540. Everything is a bit older here: the furniture, the guests (I was far below the average age) and the band. Live music was played. And how! Drew Millin rocked the pub, the atmosphere was extraordinary. So if you're in the harbor here, you shouldn't miss this pub.

The atmosphere especially at the shoreline is a strange mix of past glory, tourism and attempts to create a new relevance for the city. Worth experiencing, though probably not the #1 destination anymore as decades ago.
