Nice ride out to Redlake, but then using a map, gps and standing on top of the hill, unable to find the track to Avon dam. Really disappointing.

Left Lake is a small lake on the right of the Two Moors Way trail from Ivybridge heading north to Red Lake. It's a great little pool with a peaty bottom, so the water is quite dark. It warms up well if you get a few days of sunshine, perfect for a quick dip on a long run on the south moor.

The dam rises to a maximum height of 19m above surrounding ground level, with an overall length of 160m. The Auxiliary spillway, labyrinth weir and receiving channel was constructed in 2007 to mitigate against flood events, with less than a 1% (1/100) annual occurrence.

The Avon Dam was built in 1957 to supply water to the coastal towns of South Devon. You can ride up the access road to the base of the dam but will have to leave your bike or push up to see the reservoir.
