“Is it always something special for you?” asks presenter Werner Schmidbauer as he and Munich priest Rainer Maria Schießler reach the summit cross crowning the mountain in an episode of the Bavarian Television series “Summit Meeting.” I would like to offer his short but poignant answer to all who pause before this small sacred monument for reflection: “For me, the cross has always been a symbol of encouragement, of hope, of new beginnings, of life. That’s how my parents taught it to me…”

A lovely walk around the water. It's very quiet here, with a few nice benches to rest on. The view is beautiful. It's not a lake, but a reservoir; you're not allowed to swim in it, but we did see a black alpine newt.

The actual summit cross on the Ebenstein. Interestingly, the summit book says 2153 meters above sea level. However, I could not find any entry in the summit records online that this cross is 30 meters higher. The path there is a little exposed.

Here is the large summit cross on the big Ebenstein at 2123 m. The actual summit is 200 m to the northwest. It is barely visible, an exposed path leads there.

Beautiful summit cross - good footwear, which unfortunately is not the case for many hikers here, as many go up by train. However, the way to the summit is very rocky and rubble.

Great vantage point with all-round views. Iron constructions offer a great view of the mountains.

From the parking lot of the Hochkarbahn it is a walk to the lake. No special requirements, a path for everyone
