This beautiful place has been ruined by euroforest tree felling and not clearing up after the utter devastation they've caused. The personal responsible for the mess should be strung up in this forest for all to see

A lovely place for a family cycle, challenging in some parts for small children and the uphill is in places brutal, but you can push.

More trails/tracks than are marked...just go in the general direction, you won't go far wrong.

The Pebblebed Heaths are a series of nine areas in East Devon that share the same incredibly important habitat, and are managed by Clinton Devon Estates and the RSPB. These include Woodbury Common, Bicton Common, East Budleigh Common, Colaton Raleigh Common, Hawkerland, Mutters Moor, Aylesbeare Common, Harpford Common and Dalditch Common. These areas of wilderness are brilliant playgrounds for hikers, horse riders and bikers alike, and a real treat for anyone who enjoys wildlife. As of May 2021, they have now been given extra protection as a designated National Nature Reserve. To find out more about their history and what wildlife to find there, check out: https://www.pebblebedheaths.org.uk/your-visit/#interactiveMap

Another terrible attempt at turning a footpath into a shared cycle/pedestrian route. It never works, it's not safe for anyone, and komoot should not route me on these as the default option.

Fascinating bit of history to explore here, also keep an eye out for the Jackdaws nesting in the trees.

Glorious woodland to walk through, good for bird watching. My partner and I saw a Greater Spotted Woodpecker and a Goldcrest on our last walk here.

An Iron Age hillfort now cloaked in beech trees, Woodbury Castle sits high on beautiful heathland. It has exceptional earthworks and you can roam amongst its ramparts and down into its heart. You’ll find interpretation boards dotted around the castle, explaining the importance of the fort and plenty of archaeological details. Much stewardship work has gone on in recent years, with earthwork stabilisation and strategic tree management. The castle is free to access and is a fantastic place to see in every season. It also lies within the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Area and is home to a variety of bird, animal and plant life. Please don't ride your bike on this Scheduled Monument.

Just east of the tiny village of Harpford, these woods are like a magical world. Vibrant, luscious and filled with ferns, walking along the trail here transports you to this other world. The trees are improbably tall and a disused Victorian railway lies on the north side of the trail, covered in creeping ivy. These woods are simply stunning and the stream running along the south side of the path is the icing on the cake.

Heathland, woodland, streams and ponds make a haven for wildlife at RSPB Aylesbeare Common, where you can find yellowhammers, dartford warblers, tree pipits, stonechats and nightjars, depending on the season. These commons form part of the East Devon pebblebed heathland, an ancient lowland habitat that was formed 235 million years ago as a desert riverbed. For more information, visit: https://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/aylesbeare-common/

This lovely green corridor follows the River Sid south from Sidford to the sea. Although it forms part of the National Cycle Network it's usually pretty quiet. Riding to the coast you pass the outskirts of Sidmouth on one side, and verdant rolling hills on the other, before splashing through a shallow ford and ending up at the lifeboat station on the seafront. It's a great section to ride with kids, or a useful recovery segment after climbing the hills close to Honiton.
