P.S. The land owner/farmer has obviously had problems with unauthorised vehicles using this track, because there are now large hay bales installed either side of the ford and in front of nearby farm gates. Access across the stream via the adjacent footbridge is still possible, but don't be disappointed if you wanted to take a run through the ford. P.P.S. The hay bales have now been removed from the ford!

This cafe has now changed management and is called Waffle and Coffee. Still has bike racks and outside seating although I did not see the bike locks last time I was there. Staff still great and the food is even better. Bacon and egg sandwich is very good. Coffee, Tea and cakes and of course waffles. Good clean toilets so well worth visiting as a rest stop.

Fantastic view of Audley End House from Adam Bridge. Audley End is a 17th Century mansion that is known as a prodigy house, meaning that it is extra impressive. Often seen on TV on the likes of Antiques Roadshow, the house used to three times the size, if you can believe it. It's a fabulous view as you cycling past, and worth making a detour out of Saffron Walden for.

Yes, I can vouch for that: a great cycle route between Babraham and Stapleford all year round, although the ford is somewhat deeper in the winter!

Great place to stop for a toastie and coffee - also let us put our bikes inside the cafe to keep our bikepacking stuff safe!

The quickest and easiest route from south Cambridge to Shelford but only a narrow path so you can only ride single file and have to slow when passing pedestrians or other cyclists. Would be a lot better if it was the same width as the busway cycle paths.

A lovely ride from Cambridge market following Hobson's Brook along Trumpington Street, alongside the Botanic Gardens then following the stream by Empty Common; at present you have to join the guided busway instead of right next to the stream at the end of the little path. Across the bridge towards Addenbrookes, and right before Papworth Hospital, get to the DNA path to the left of the road bridge. You can visit Nine Wells, where the springs feed Hobson’s Brook, by following the farm track left, just before where the DNA path starts.

Gravel at the Cambridge end and grassy path and single track to the south. The northern end is near Wandlebury country park and is popular with families.

Generally drains well until deepest winter, but if you're riding all the way to Linton be advised that the part after Hildersham rd can turn into a total mire well before the rest.

Whilst generally pretty dry, the bit after Hildersham road turns into an absolute mire once autumn comes around. Watch out. Even 2.4inch tyres will start to slide.

Great spot all year round (if you're going to attempt to bike through the ford, take it with some speed and confidence)

A decent cycle path that connects Shelford and surrounding villages to Addenbrookes and the city centre. Easy access to the Nine Wells wooded and stream area if you are looking for a nice place to chill out and relax during a ride.

A long track with a good combination of inclines and descents, but look out for families and dog walkers on pleasant days. It also requires good confident bike handling skills after long dry periods as the ruts that form are awkward and dangerous if you try and avoid an obstacle at speed (I have personally been thrown off three or four times down this track)!
