A narrow spiral staircase with 128 steps leads to the tower keeper's room, which is 30 m high. From the gallery you have a wonderful view of the wine town of Retz. Total height of the tower: 57 m.

The Znojmo Gate, also known colloquially as the Fire Tower, is still the northern entrance to the city today. It dates back to the 13th century and was given its current form in the post-Hussite period after 1425. The water for the spring, the water extraction point for the citizens, was channeled around 2 km away. The Znojmo Gate was extensively restored in 2012. The clearly visible toll window indicates the toll revenues - along with the wine trading privileges, these were the basis of the city's former wealth.

The heart of Retz is its main square, one of the largest and most impressive historical squares in Austria. Surrounded by magnificent townhouses with Renaissance and Baroque facades, it presents a cohesive, historic cityscape. The dominant landmark is the Retz Town Hall tower, which, together with the town hall itself, forms the architectural centerpiece of the square.

The high gate tower with a hipped roof of the Znojmo Gate was built around 1300 as part of the city fortifications.
