Traisen station is located in the market town of Traisen and is an important hub on the Traisentalbahn. It connects the region with St. Pölten and the branches to Schrambach and Hainfeld. The historic station building is over 100 years old and offers travelers a waiting room and two platforms. The station is served by regional trains to Hainfeld, Schrambach and St. Pölten every hour and a nearby bus stop offers additional connections to surrounding towns. In addition to the main station, there is the Traisen Markt stop, which is also served by trains every hour. Historically, the Traisentalbahn was once one of the first fully nationalized railway lines in Austria.

Lilienfeld Abbey is an important Cistercian monastery in Lower Austria and the largest medieval monastery in Austria. It was founded in 1202 by Leopold VI and impresses with its Gothic architecture. The monastery church is one of the largest Gothic churches in Austria with magnificent stained glass windows and an impressive high altar. The abbey is located in the Traisental, at the foot of the Muckenkogel, surrounded by an idyllic natural landscape. It is an ideal starting point for cycling tours, including the Muckenkogel mountain tour, which offers spectacular views.

In the 12th century, a small village probably already existed at the mouth of the Gölsen, which was actually called St. Johann an der Traisen. The church, located south of the Traisen, was probably a lordly parish that separated from the parish of St. Veit an der Gölsen in the 12th century. The Göttweig and Lilienfeld monasteries were the largest landowners. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was a private parish of the Lords of Hohenberg and served as the church for Lilienfeld until around 1220.
