The Groß-Enzersdorf Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1868 and is one of the founding fire departments of the Lower Austrian State Fire Brigade Association. Since its inception, it has served the safety of the population and has evolved from a purely firefighting unit into a modern emergency response organization. Today, its responsibilities include not only firefighting but also technical assistance, storm and flood relief, hazardous materials incidents, and fire safety patrols. The fire department is firmly rooted in the community, actively involved in training and youth fire brigades, and, with its volunteer members, makes an indispensable contribution to the protection of people, animals, and property.

In the middle of the Donauauen National Park lies the Groß-Enzersdorfer Arm, an oxbow lake of the Danube. The Danube itself used to spread here, but now the oxbow lake is kept alive artificially with water feeds in order to enable the wonderful floodplain landscape in the Lobau.
