6월 23, 2025, Farleigh Hungerford Castle
I don’t usually like audio guides but this was really well done. Interesting castle history, but also the characters and stories. And the chapel at the end is an excellent finale. I spent almost an hour here. No cafe but you can get tea/coffee/ ice cream. A good stop!

This picturesque moated medieval castle was built in the 1370s by Sir John de la Mare. It's heavily influenced by French design and features a compact layout with four round corner towers and thick defensice walls.

A castle with a family history from 1160 to today. The family tree is simply gigantic.

Managed by English Heritage this is a paid entry property unless your a member. The castle is a fortified mansion started in the 14th century. Today it's a ruin but there is still quite a lot left to explore. If you don't pay you can see the entrance from the car park which is quite impressive. You can also walk around the base on a footpath to the right (when facing the castle on the road). Open 10:00 - 17:00 everyday.

A medieval 14th-century castle. Farleigh Hungerford Castle belonged to the Hungerford family for two turbulent centuries. During the War of the Roses, the castle was held by the crown and some members of the family were executed. Unlike many other castles in the south, Farleigh Hungerford survived the Civil War. In 1686, Sir Edward Hungerford was forced to sell the castle after losing his fortune to gambling and extravagance. By the 18th century, the castle lay empty and fell into disrepair. Today, the castle is a Scheduled Ancient Monument owned by English Heritage. You can visit 10am - 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Entrance costs £5.70 per adult. Village fairs and music in the summer. Sneak into the castle in winter and put a hot brew on the stove for those cooler days. 😉

Awesome castle with moat and a pub opposite... the best combination... Oh and the chips are worth the trip washed down with a crisp Somerset cider!

11월 8, 2017, Newton Park Castle, Bath Spa University
Bath Spa University has simply one of most beautiful campuses of any University anywhere. Set in the midst of rolling hills and fields dotted with ancient buildings and a castle, walled gardens and grounds designed by Capability Brown. Bath Spa University is also transected through and though with public footpaths, cycleways and rights of way. Definitely worth a visit ... even if you don't study here ...
