Offer good views down into the valley in-between Burbage edge and higgor tor

Upper Burbage, is within the Peak District National Park near Hathersage, Derbyshire. A beautiful valley famous for its stunning gritstone edges, expansive moorlands, and rich biodiversity. This area appeals to hikers, climbers, photographers, birdwatchers and other outdoors enthusiast It consists of two natural formations: Upper Burbage Edge and Lower Burbage Edge. They provide panoramic views. And its heather-clad moorlands hosts various species of wildlife. Birdwatchers may find ring ouzel, nightjar, woodcock, and snipe. Burbage South is a large gritstone edge with awesome views, an amazing trail along the base and a more technical trail, along the top. It's not that disconnected from Burbage North further up the valley and forms a continuation of the outcrop which the Nine Edges Challenge follows. You can run nice loops from Longshaw or the Cross Foxes Inn to the south or from Burbage Bridge in the north. The valley is wonderful with great views of Burbage to the east and Higger Tor to the west.

The trig point at the south-eastern end of Stanage edge stands at 1,499 ft (457 m), just 3 ft (1 m) lower than the trig at High Neb. The views are great in all directions but most excitingly west along the edge as that's probably where you're about to run. If you look southwest, you can see Higger Tor with Burbage in the background and further south down the Derwent Valley.

High Neb is essentially the summit of Stanage Edge. The trig point is at 1,503 ft (458 m) which means you get awesome views along the edge, west towards Ladybower and south over Bamford and Hathersage towards Offerton Moor. The running along Stanage is great, a rocky and sometimes puddly but wide and fairly flat trail all along the top of the edge.

Burbage North is separated from Stanage by the road at upper Burbage Bridge. It's a long curving gritstone edge popular with climbers and walkers. The path that flows down the Burbage valley from Burbage Bridge down to the A6187 near Longshaw and the Cross Foxes Inn is brilliant to run down. The trail is gravelly with the occasional boulder to jump, and it offers stunning views with Higger Tor to the west and Burbage to the east.

Stanage is a gritstone edge with a real presence, towering above the Hope Valley for almost four miles (6.4 km). With planning it is possible to find a day (or time) when you can virtually be on your own and then the area is sublime. As they say, rocks can be "slippery when wet" so take care and make sure you have appropriate trail running shoes.

If you've got the legs for it, this segment offers approx 3km of almost flat road to pick up the pace (or maybe recover for the inevitable hill sections!)
