Ok the reel deal here it’s ! You only can buy ticket the same day in person . There’s a little box with people who sell the ticket for the car , you go there with your bike ! And for the off season people like myself ! You can take your buy any time of the year. It’s 12€ as today November 2025. So: no need to do the climb the day before to be sure to have a ticket like myself 😅

The Ankogel cable cars transport hikers from the valley station (at 1,287 m) to lofty heights in two stages. The first stage leads to the mid-station. It is the ideal starting point for many shorter and longer mountain hikes. The second stage of the Ankogel cable cars continues to the mountain station on the Elschesattel (2,650 m). A magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding mountains awaits at the top. The Hannoverhaus, near the mountain station, is a great place for a refreshment stop.

Via the Tauern lock you can easily get from Bad Gastein via Böckstein to Mallnitz by bike on the train. Once in Mallnitz you can continue the journey in Kernten.

From here you can climb the mountain up to 2600 meters by train. You can then climb the Ankogel from the mountain station, for example. The train is even free with the Kärnten Card

Ciclovia Alpe-Adria bike path from Salzburg to Grado: The highest point of this beautiful bike tour you reach after the departure of the car sluice Tauernbahn in Mallnitz at 1,200 meters above sea level. After that, it's just downhill. 1st tip: As a "reward" I would recommend to make a detour to the right and visit this beautiful mountain village and enjoy the romantic Seebachtal with the lake Stappitzer. 2nd tip: If you want to avoid main roads, turn off after the Mallnitz station from the main road to the left direction Dösental and uses the old railway line to the former station Kaponig and then down again to the main street. Then it is only about 1 km to the bike path.

The Tauernbahn car lock connects the Mölltal in Carinthia with the Gastein valley in Salzburg through the Tauern tunnel and is an alternative to the Tauern motorway. The Tauern Tunnel is 8370m long, the journey time by car lock is about 12 minutes. The transport of cars with freight trains through the Tauern tunnel has been carried out since 1920.

According to legend, the Mallnitzer Lindwurm, looking for food, should have moved on to Klagenfurt, where it found its end.
