The patronage of this church – dedicated to Saint Thomas of Canterbury – takes us back in time to the 12th century, but geographically we remain in southeastern England. His feast day in the calendar of saints is December 29th. Very detailed and insightful museum into D-Day 1944. There is much original equipment in the museum and a landing craft outside that took part in the invasion. You have to pay to go in to the museum and onto the landing craft, but you can look at and get close to the landing craft from the pavement.

On the night of 5 to 6 June 1944, the landings in Normandy began from Portsmouth.
