Starting from the forestry commision car park, hed over the bridge and turn right. This will give you several options for forestry trails and if you head towards Lynford you can then pop on to the road for a short trip to Browns cafe.

A really useful wooden footbridge across the River Little Ouse near Santon House. It carries a footpath over the river used by several long distance trails. The Little Ouse Path crosses here.

The Stanton Downham Bridge was built during the first world war as a rail bridge to transport timber and logging machines. It's been a road bridge since about 1922. The bridge crosses the Little Ouse River.

One of the best places in East Anglia to ride off road - mtb/gravel. A gigantic maze of endless mtb trails/tracks/gravel paths to explore, have lots of fun and get lost (mind the roots). It's just beautiful! 🚴‍♂️

Easy to get to

Shepherd trail (green) 3.5 or 5 miles Start your cycling adventure at High Lodge on our green graded trail. Aimed at families, this suitable for most types of off-road bike.   The trail is relatively flat, wide and uses a mixture of gravel forest roads, tracks and trails. It is suitable for tag-a-longs, trailers and bikes with child seats.

Beater trail (blue) 6 or 11 miles This trail is a fun flowing blue grade trail, which winds between the trees. Expect single track sections with roots and rocks as well as sweeping berms. If you are an aspiring off-road cyclist, have a basic off-road skill level.

Lime Burner trail (red route) 10 miles This single-track trail is for the experienced mountain biker on the right bike.  The route provides a chance to hone your cycling skills with crests, dips, bomb holes and great single-track. Along this sweeping single-track you will find drop-offs and rock features. You will need good level of skill, endurance and off-road knowledge.

A great place to top up your water, grab a bite to eat and even pop in to the bike shop if you need.

Managed by Forestry England High Lodge is the visitor centre at Thetford Forest. The building includes an information point about the forest and the various activities encouraged here. There are also toilets and the café.

Thetford Forest, is a fantastic location for running, with numerous trails to explore through the trees. There are also play areas, art installations, plus toilets and a water fountain at the visitor centre.

Accidentally burned down in the 1700s and there wasn’t the money or the population to justify rebuilding it so for 300 years since the church has been left as a picturesque ruin.
