The Martinswand is a striking, approximately 600-meter-high rock face on the southern edge of the Inn Valley near Zirl, west of Innsbruck. It rises steeply above the Inn River and is particularly visible from the Inn Valley Cycle Path. The face is best known for the Kaiser-Max-Grotte (Emperor Max Grotto), where, according to legend, Emperor Maximilian I was trapped during a hunt. Today, the Martinswand is a popular destination for climbers, with numerous routes of varying difficulty. Cyclists on the Inn Valley Cycle Path enjoy an impressive section here with spectacular views of the rock face, the Inn River, and the surrounding mountains. An information board in Zirl provides historical background to the legend, and several rest areas along the trail invite you to linger.

The Inn Valley Cycle Path runs near Völs, west of Innsbruck, along flat, paved paths directly along the Inn River. The route is ideal for leisurely cyclists and is well signposted throughout. It offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, especially the Nordkette range to the north. Highlights include the nearby Old Town of Innsbruck, the Rossau quarry lake, and the Völser Au nature reserve. With the train station in Völs, the route is also perfectly suited for bike-train combinations.
