Nestled in peaceful Lower Broadheath, The Firs was the first place of inspiration for composer Edward Elgar, who was born here in 1857. Today the property is owned by the National Trust, requiring membership or buying a ticket to enter.

Pretty lane cut-through avoiding the A-roads on the outskirts of Martley.

Today, Powick is home to three pubs, but it was historically the site of a psychiatric hospital and a Victorian power station, and these intriguing buildings are well worth a detour to see. The old bridge over the river Teme is a Grade I listed structure and was built in medieval times.

Highly recommended café at the Commandry in Sidbury, Worcester. Friendly service, great food, and a brilliant place to soak up the sun at the end (or beginning!) of a trip along the canal.
