A very impressive campus, you can enjoy it and relax and also learn about the College there. Unfortunately the Chapel wasn't accessible during our visit.

10월 30, 2024, Mathematical Bridge, Queens' College
The name “Mathematical Bridge” derives from the fact that this bridge is built with entirely straight timbers, though it maintains an arch shape. This makes for some interesting architectural study while punting down the river below it! The legends surrounding the bridge are just as intriguing as its shape.

Nice play with geometry and one of the highlights when looking into Queens from the road. Also great if you get the chance to cross the bridge itself.

Great long stretch to just peddle with a few stops due to roads or pedestrian crossings. Downside it's not well protected/covered against the wind so it is easy for that to slow you down.

Undoubtedly the most central and most impressive college in the city. The chapel building is simply impressive. Recently the grass in front has been transformed into a flowery meadow making the view even nicer. Can be visited at certain times.

The arrangement of timbers is a series of tangents that describe the arc of the bridge, with radial members to tie the tangents together and triangulate the structure, making it rigid and self-supporting. This type of structure, technically tangent and radial trussing, is an efficient structural use of timber, and was also used for the timber supporting arches (centring) used for building stone bridges.[6] Analysis of the design shows that the tangent members are almost entirely under compression, while the radial timbers are almost entirely subject to tension with very little bending stress, or to put it another way, the tangent and radial elements elegantly express the forces involved in arched construction. This bridge cannot be entered by visitors during the exam period, but you have a better view from the neighboring bridge anyway.

Also known as Wooden Bridge, the Mathematical Bridge spans the River Cam. It looks like an arch bridge but is actually built with completely straight timbers. Built originally in 1749 and rebuilt in 1905, it joins two parts of Queens' College.

We often stay in a hotel in Bar Hill and use this cycleway to head NW or SE on a good surface with no traffic. It provides a fast link to more interesting lanes further out. It must be fabulous for safe commuting.

Wide cycle path, in good condition, and usually pretty quiet.

King's College is one of the most famous colleges at Cambridge University, if not the world. Founded in 1441 by Henry VI shortly after he founded Eton, the college has a long history. The building is built in a late Gothic style – it's stunning. There's also a lovely chapel which you can visit (the college itself doesn't accept visitors at the moment).

The southern sections near Histon and Cambridge narrow in a few places and can get quite busy with pedestrians. Head further towards St Ives for speed sections.

6월 1, 2021, DNA Path Rainbow Cycleway
The quickest and easiest route from south Cambridge to Shelford but only a narrow path so you can only ride single file and have to slow when passing pedestrians or other cyclists. Would be a lot better if it was the same width as the busway cycle paths.

A lovely ride from Cambridge market following Hobson's Brook along Trumpington Street, alongside the Botanic Gardens then following the stream by Empty Common; at present you have to join the guided busway instead of right next to the stream at the end of the little path. Across the bridge towards Addenbrookes, and right before Papworth Hospital, get to the DNA path to the left of the road bridge. You can visit Nine Wells, where the springs feed Hobson’s Brook, by following the farm track left, just before where the DNA path starts.

Probably the most well known and most recognisable of the colleges of the University of Cambridge. Worth visiting the chapel in particular.
