From the cycle path along the B9, a sweeping view opens up over fields toward Bratislava. The route runs mostly flat through open agricultural landscapes, allowing unobstructed vistas. Between the green fields, the silhouette of the city of Bratislava with its striking buildings can be seen in the distance. Especially in clear weather, the view appears expansive and flooded with light, and the open landscape conveys a sense of peace and space as you leisurely cycle along the cycle path.

Wolfsthal is a border municipality in the easternmost part of Austria, in the district of Bruck an der Leitha (Lower Austria), directly on the border with Slovakia and just a few kilometers from Bratislava. The town is picturesquely nestled between the Hainburg Mountains and the Danube floodplains and is particularly popular with cyclists and nature lovers. For cyclists, Wolfsthal is an important point on the Danube Cycle Path and EuroVelo 6. From here, the route continues either west towards Hainburg and Vienna or east directly across the border to Bratislava – a scenic and quiet route. The route through Wolfsthal runs along fields, floodplain forests, and small settlements, offering beautiful views of the surrounding area. Also worth seeing is the Wolfsthal Parish Church, a Baroque building with a long history. A memorial in the town commemorates the history of the border region during the Cold War. Today, Wolfsthal is an open, quiet place with good connections to Bratislava (train, bus, bike) – an ideal stopover for anyone who wants to combine nature, tranquility and European history.

The Danube near Hainburg is a particularly scenic stretch for cyclists on the Danube Cycle Path. Between the Hainburg Hills and the Danube floodplains, the cycle path runs mostly flat and well-maintained directly along the riverbank. The route offers sweeping views over the Danube, shady passages through riparian forests, and frequent access to the water – ideal for short breaks or a refreshing dip in the summer. Hainburg itself, with its historic old town, city walls, and the view from Braunsberg, is an inviting place for a short detour. The combination of nature, culture, and excellent infrastructure makes the region around Hainburg a popular and relaxing destination for cycling tours along the Danube.

These fortifications are not for everyone, historically yes, but also daunting.

The bunker B-S 4 Lány is a remnant of the Bratislava section of the Czechoslovak border fortifications from 1935-1938; currently there is a museum here.

Bratislava's Old Town enchants with its winding alleys, historic townhouses, and a lively mix of cafés, galleries, and boutiques. Strolling across the expansive Main Square (Hlavné námestie) will immerse you in the city's rich history, while baroque facades and magnificent fountains continually captivate your gaze. Between St. Michael's Gate, the Primate's Palace, and the charming cobblestone streets, small works of art and fascinating anecdotes can be discovered around every corner. Numerous sidewalk cafés invite you to take a break before continuing on to the Danube promenade or up to the majestic Castle Hill. A walking tour of the Old Town is not only a cultural highlight, but also the perfect start or end to any tour of Bratislava.
