I said I wanted a room with a view.

Opened on 1st May 1815, the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal includes 17 locks and connects the canal with the River Nene in Northampton.

Series of descending locks travelling towards Northampton (or ascending if you're going the other way towards Stoke Bruerne). Fairly wide in places so it's easy to build up a fair bit of speed downhill, but bear in mind it's a canal towpath so there will be walkers... ride sensibly, announce your presence and be ready to slow down for pedestrians👍

Might not be much to look at to the uninitiated, but it's an interesting piece of engineering going on here to cram everything in... as well as the canal lock with it's wall art, look up and you have Britain's first motorway passing directly over you head - junction 15a of the M1. Also a handy place to wait out the rain!

Unusually shaped church that seems to have been extended more than once, sitting in well kept grounds that lead directly from the road.

Beautiful old church and small but well kept graveyard and grounds, looked great in the sunshine and I'm sure the stained glass would be very impressive from the inside on a day like today.

Very impressive old building sitting behind ornate iron gates and situated in very well kept gardens containing many very old trees, you can see the building on crossing the river into the village.

Small bridge over the river entering the village gives a lovely view along the shallow river

Might be worth preparing yourself for all the nettles as i'm still feeling the sting 6 hours later. Wear some joggers as the bottom section is overgrown and hanging into the path, there are also a few brambles to negotiate but it's pretty much all downhill and there are some nice rooty sections to get a bit more technical.

look out for the field of ponies to the right, if you're lucky you may just see the latest members of the herd. On a hot day you'll see the little ones lounging around.

Look out for the small seating area under the trees and join the local sculptures for a picnic. You may even be lucky enough to find the small drawbridge down so you can visit the opposite bank of the the canal for a while.
