It's an easy to walk Canal Path,it stretches from Ellesmere Port to Chester, Ellesmere Port has a nice Boat Museum, and a friendly café

Eastgate Street in Chester is one of the city's most iconic and historic thoroughfares. It's nice to ride along the canal but he surface is quite bumpy and loose gravel. Luckily I have Gatorskins tyres on my bike but would recommend hybrid, gravel or mtb for this area of path

Chester is a historical city with many older, well preserved buildings.

The original gate was guarded by a wooden tower, which was replaced in the 2nd century by a stone tower, which in turn was probably replaced in the 14th century. The current gate dates from 1768 and is a three-arched sandstone structure supporting the walkway which forms part of Chester's city walls. In 1899, a clock was added to the top of the gate to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee two years earlier. It is supported by pierced iron pillars, has a clock face on all four sides and a copper dome. The clock was designed by Chester architect John Douglas. The tow path is generally good, best for gravel bikes! There are routes pushing up the tarmac in places and the surface is worn in others.

A good resting point with views across the river to The Searle Eye's, also known as the meadows. In the Summer a small ferry allows people across, not tried it with a bike!

The Shropshire Union Canal winds into Chester from the south and is a wonderful place to walk. In summer, wildflowers, birds and wildlife thrive along the waterside and colourful canal boats putter about. This canal path is long and allows you to walk for miles, into or out of the city.
