10월 29, 2024, The Middle Slip and Old Watch House, Parkgate
"This little building overlooking the Middle Slipway dates from about 1720. It was used by the coastguard service as a Watch House until 1799, when it was taken over by the HM Customs to keep an eye on local shipping and, in particular, any smuggling." "An Inn called the "Beer House" was shown here on a map of 1686, though its origin was probably much earlier. At times it was also known as the Ferry House, and the Pengwern Arms, before it was demolished around 1885, following severe storm damage a few years earlier. The present structure (built in 1926) began as the Boathouse Café at a time when the nearby baths were flourishing. It is now a pub/restaurant, having been progressively modified and enlarged over the years; the modern conservatory dining area enables patrons to watch the wildlife on the marshes while they enjoy their meals in comfort." In the 1820s known as the Welsh Harp and listed under that name in Pigot's Directory of 1828-29 but was renamed the Harp Inn from at least 1856. 8월 5, 2024, Quakers' Graves in Burton Wood
"This a relatively small woodland with a number of entrances leading through a combination of pine and broad leaf woodland. The pathways are untreated and as such are not suitable for disabled access. However the woodland has open and narrow swaiths for easy walking. The woodland is near to Burton RSPB, Burton manor and Ness Botanical gardens and could be a combined adventure. The latter two have tea shops. There is no formal parking but Burton manor may be obliging" Source: The Woodland Trust

"Relics of an earlier church dating from the 12th century consist of Norman stones which have been dug up in the churchyard and are now preserved in the porch and beneath the tower. Apart from the Massey chapel which was erected in 1380, the present church was built in 1721. The chancel was rebuilt in 1870........ Nets Cafe, which is a well-known cyclist cafe and is very reasonably priced. There’s loads of outside seating, so you don’t have to worry about locking your bikes up. It gets busy in the summer but it's in a beautiful spot. It's worth a ride to get there.

Beautiful views that overlook Burton Marsh. Station Lane before you enter another cycle/pedestrian lane which marks the start of the RSPB Burton Marsh. This stretch to the Welsh border is the best bit of the ride as the views over the marsh are pretty uninterrupted.. You’ll pass a few RSPB information boards along the way which will give you more facts about the marshes. The road then turns into a cycle/pedestrian path all the way to Nets Cafe, which is a well known cyclist cafe and is very reasonably priced. There’s loads of outside seating so you don’t have to worry about locking your bikes up.

Consistently worst cup of tea in the world. Cheap and nasty tea bag in tepid water. Coffee is even worse. Brackish hot water from a machine. I once had to rescue a lady in great distress whom I found some 2 miles away bent over vomiting following a prawn sandwich from the cafe.
