James the Greater (the Latin 'major' is not translated as 'great' in English), to whom this church in Gawsworth was dedicated, was, together with his brother, part of the inner circle of Jesus' disciples. According to the Acts of the Apostles, James was executed for his faith. His tomb in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia (Spain), is one of the most famous and important pilgrimage destinations in the world.

At the top of Alderly Edge you will find this cafe. It is located at the start of the woodland foot paths where you can find old copper mines and tales of the wizard.

„Today the Salt Line runs through farmland and woodlands, with streams, pools and rough grassland. Wild primroses brighten up the steep cutting at Roughwood Hollow while later in the year the delicate flowers of scabious and harebell can be seen on the banks. Areas of willow and hazel are coppiced regularly. This is an ancient woodland practice in which trees are cut every few years to produce timber that would have been traditionally used for thatching spars, barrel hoops, hurdles and baskets. Sheltered glades are created where flower and insects thrive, until the trees re-grow and the process begins again. Some areas are managed as wild flower meadows while others are left fairly wild and just cut back enough to keep the path clear. nice lung buster mid way going up but hate going down this one

A cracking little climb that kicks up at the end 10% Nice road lined with trees well worth a look.

Cyclists are asked to dismount on part of the trail due to rabbit burrows. Fabulous for families, and hikers too

Have a refreshing beverage or a bite to eat at this quaint and cosy cafe in the National Trust area of Alderley Edge. It's a true treasure of an eatery with a really welcoming vibe.

A nice relatively short climb that gets the legs and lungs going. Road surface has really deteriorated due to all the trees so care needs to be taken on the descent.

Amazing 360 views from the summit, which features a trig, toposcope and a rocky outcrop if you fancy a very small scramble for views from the edge.

Great autumn colours also a nice place to spot Blue Bells

Just to comment that the Wizard pub has closed, but the Wizard cafe which is behind the pub remains open, and is available for recovery drinks and snacks, much needed after climbing Artists Lane.

Lovely little hill to climb and don't miss the funny animal farm on the way down.

A pretty little trig pointed hill near Congleton where everybody in the whole world goes mountain biking I think. Funny little animal farm there too! It is a designated UK Marilyn.
