Although Elsecar canal path is narrow it’s worth going slow or hike a bike. I always pack a bag of bird seed and this year This whole young family of swans have been there weekly. Happy to approach people expecting feeding. We may need more Canal. 😂

Wentworth is a lovely village with great cycling routes to Elsecar and Thorpe Hesley

Elsecar is a lovely place , it’s hard to get all the way around if it’s been raining, the views and the birds are great

Elsecar is a quick train ride from Chapeltown and it has some amazing views

Great ride up/down the TPT with the canal, wildlife, and the pub here is a useful refueling stop.

Elsecar Heritage Centre is a living history centre in Elsecar, Barnsley, England. It covers the industrial history of the area, and includes a Newcomen steam engine, the only such engine still in its original location

Look out for the deer

Greasbrough Dam has a really nice and easy circular walk around it. You can extend your walk up to Wentworth House and on to Wentworth for a longer walk, or you can also walk to the next fishing lake. This is a popular place for fishing and you can access easily if you park in Greasbrough village near the local pub.

Nice single track(its a footpath, sorry not sorry) on top of a ridge, beautiful views of Sheffield and Rotherham. and there is a nice monument called the needles eye.

Elsecar Heritage Centre is a living history centre on the site of the Elsecar Ironworks that houses an exhibition centre, galleries, shops and cafes. It's the site of the only Newcomen Beam Engine in the world still in its original location. It's a really interesting place where you can find out about the local coal and iron industries during the Industrial Revolution. Elsecar Reservoir is a really nice place. A great spot for lunch or a picnic. A brilliant gravel path loops around it too.
