One of my favourite places. Make sure you follow the signs over the bridge to pick up the canal again, otherwise you could end up on the railway track. hahahahahhahahha yep I did that hahahahahhaha

Temp diversion into Park

This site used to be one of the deepest Cole mines in the country, reaching over 250 feet (76 m) below the surface. Once the mines closed the area was rejuvenated and rewilded with the lake, wetland, grasslands and woods creating a diverse habitat for many species of flora and fauna. There are several trails, a children's playground, café and visitor centre.

The Barnsley Canal ran for 14.5 miles (23.3 km), from Barnby Basin, to a junction with the Aire and Calder Navigation. The canal was closed in 1953. Work is underway to re-open the canal as a leisure waterway, but some diversions will need to be created. In the meantime, the towpath remains a nice level trail.

Wigfield Farm is set in Worsbrough, Barnsley and has three main functions: A working farm producing livestock A base for Barnsley College Horticulture and Animal Management courses An Open Farm and Visitors Centre accessible to the local and wider community A large part of the practical tasks during the week are actually undertaken by students following one of our many programmes of study giving them a real working environment to develop their skills and knowledge. https://www.barnsley.ac.uk/shops-services/wigfield-farm/

Cracking viewpoint with 360 degree full panorama views. Great place for a sandwich break.

Gem of a small cafe, good cake and hot pastry selection. Water fountain in the canteen area to refill bottles (without judgement of how muddy they are)

Pedestrian and bike bridge through Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Fantastic spot to stop and appreciate the art.

Classic south Yorkshire market town with a church and a pretty square. A few great coffee options depending on what you like, all of which are cycling friendly.

My new happy place! The views are hard earned with the steep climbs on the edges but once you're up, you can see everything!

Great view from 1000 feet above sea level. 360 degree view over South/West Yorks and Peak district National park.

On a road bike avoid this path - take the road instead. It's steep, gravelly, heavily overgrown and just a pain. Go on the road, it's much less painful.
