In Mullingar the Old Railway Track and the Royal Canal Way can be seen, two very nice Greenways connecting West and East Ireland through the beautiful Irish Midlands.

Many of these old bridges are still being used and in good shape.

At some few (old railway stations) spots there is seating and table for a proper picknick.

Head down the track if you want to see the christian monastery that is Fore Abbey/ It was founded by St Feichin in 630AD. it is believed that there were as many as 300 monks and 2000 students in residence in its heyday. An amazing place and a great rest stop.

If you want to have a nice scenic vista just head off down the track here on your bike to the shore of Lough Ennell. The lough is well known for the large amount of swans that can be found on its treelined shores.

This abbey is a former Augustinian / Dominican Priory and a national monument of Ireland. The site is thought to have been an early monastic one in the 6th century, giving it a real sense of history. From the roundabout head east and take the second right at Abbeycourt lane to find the abbey.
