The Col du Diss

The Wymondham Waterfall Steps are formed where the River Wreake flows over a series of low weirs or cascades, creating a small "waterfall" effect.

Founded in 1107 by William d'Aubigny, the butler to King Henry I, Wymondham Abbey was once a thriving monastery. However, it was closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII, with the abbey officially surrendered to the crown in 1538. Today, the building serves as an Anglican parish church.

A short distance from the main market square area, on the edge of the town centre. Howard's Cycles is handily just a few yards further down the road if you're in need of any spares or repairs.

Has that curious thing of being impressively intact at one end but partially ruined at the other. Very grand for a parish church!

Just a signal box and a level crossing over the single track line. Not a busy line so the crossing is rarely closed!

Wymondham is a gorgeous market town in South Norfolk that dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period. Known as a centre for woodturning and brush-making, many of the factories of Wymondham were still in action until the late 1900s.

This small patch of lowland heath makes a dramatic change to the nearby Waveney Valley and its water meadows. Just south-west of the market town of Diss, rambling around this beautiful open access land is extremely pleasant and the Angles Way long-distance footpath cuts right through it.

Upgraded a lot in recent times with a large, partially covered decking area overlooking the water and a bicycle-shaped fountain in the lake!

Wymondham is an historic market town, having more listed buildings than any similar-sized town in Norfolk, including the 17th C. octagonal market cross.

Wymondham Abbey is the southern terminus of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Heritage line. There aren't any facilities here. The signal box at the junction with the Breckland line is about 1km down the line to the South.
