Protestant Village Church in Borgeln The predecessor of the present church probably dates from between 1150 and 1180. From 1700 to 1712, the complex was rebuilt into a single-room hall church in the Baroque style. The church features Gothic pointed arches in only two places: the double window of the sacristy and the northeast entrance door to the choir. The oldest part of the church is the tower. Its construction is dated around 1080, making it likely the oldest sacred building in the Soest Börde region. In relation to the church building, the tower appears somewhat too small – this suggests that it once belonged to a low building. Soest's city wall is one of the most impressive preserved fortifications in Westphalia. Since 1180, it has served as a defensive ring around the old town. Today, the nearly 2.6-kilometer-long path along the old walls invites you to take a stroll steeped in history. Mighty trees line the path, while glimpses of half-timbered houses, gardens, and church towers are frequent.
