Opened on 4 August 1846. This two track section runs between Thurgarton & Lowdham stations. Both freight and passenger services run through here. Rolling stock can be found on the wikipedia page for Thurgarton Station.

The River Trent flows close to Hoveringham Road, this is a great place for a break to take in the views. If you don't mind a bit of gravel, the Trent Valley Way follows a bridleway along the bank here.

These tracks are on the field edges, the weather had been dry days before May 13th 2024, enough wind to make the surfaces hard and easier to ride on. These tracks would be typical mud slogs in certain areas in wet weather

There are several lakes at Gibsmere, these are fishing lakes. Many different bods swim and feed at the lakes, ducks, geese & swans. There are tracks around the perimeter of the first lake, but access was more difficult to see for the middle lake

Riverside Park hosts a range of local events, from music concerts to food fairs and funfairs. It also contains a number of pieces of public art including a gnomon sundial, great views back onto the castle and a walk alongside the River Trent.

The Nature Reserve at Farndon is one of very few remaining survivors of the working willow holts that were found in many villages alongside the River Trent. The site at Farndon is particularly important as it houses an internationally-known collection of willows and hybrid species.

Gunthorpe Lock is one of the largest locks on the River Trent which was once a major trading route. It's still possible to see commercial barges, but now it's better known for great waterway walks.

Newark Castle has weathered many historic storms. After the British Civil War, it was deliberately vandalised and as it stands now, partially destroyed, it acts as a reminder of Newark's turbulent history. It was also the scene of the death of King John in 1216. Find out more about King John. This listed 12th century monument is set in beautifully maintained Green Flag winning gardens, with the River Trent flowing beside them. Designed by eminent Victorian landscape architect, H.E. Regularly use this quiet lane when returning SW from Newark towards Bingham and the Vale of Belvoir. Also next to a lovely riverside walk between Hoveringham and Gunthorpe
