As you approach this quaint little spot, you may think you've got to wade through a ford! but there's a bridge to the side where you get a nice view of the old brick buildings with the beck running underneath. Very nice, surprising location!

Lovely place to pause and peer through the trees at the sky and river.

This is a nice bridge and surrounding area to cross over. The fella in the house before crossing was talkative and friendly. Maybe he was wondering why I stopped outside of his garage area, where he was working, to take a photo

Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the beautiful, rural location that is Stoke Lock and Woods on the River Trent near Nottingham. The mature woodland around Stoke Lock was planted just after the lock was built in 1927, creating an excellent site for walkers and nature lovers. A Local Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire The Netherfield Lagoons, Local Nature Reserve is situated on the Trent Valley Flood Plain in Nottinghamshire and has been partly used as a dump for coal slurry but with two remaining gravel ponds. The two slurry pits are separated by a raised causeway, which is elevated some 50 feet (15 m) above the pits, giving a commanding view of the area. The largest tank is virtually full but retains some water, with muddy edges attractive to waders and roosting gulls and terns. The smaller tank is mainly deep water, attracting good numbers of wildfowl, with smaller birds, especially warblers, feeding and breeding around the tank edges. My favourite stretch when cycling on the quiet lanes from Newark to Gunthorpe on the north side of the river. There is also an enjoyable riverside walk to this point from the car-park at Gunthorpe, past the locks and weir.

Gunthorpe Lock is one of the largest locks on the River Trent which was once a major trading route. It's still possible to see commercial barges, but now it's better known for great waterway walks.
