Sir William Hill Road is an ancient packhorse route and a former section of the 1758 Sheffield-Buxton Turnpike. Today it provides an engaging challenge in both ascent and descent - the gravel trail is rough and stony.

This very fine Anglo-Saxon (Mercian) cross stands 8 foot tall and dates from the 8th-9th centuries. It was apparently set up by missionaries from the north at Cross Low on the moors to the west of Eyam. Originally it was a wayside preaching cross that was 10 feet high and certainly must have looked very spectacular, but now it is only 8 feet high due to it being knocked about a bit in more recent times and losing one of its shaft sections. In the 18th century the cross was discovered beside a trackway on the moors, from whence it was brought to the churchyard of St Lawrence’s church; but then for a long time it stood abandoned and uncared for in the corner of the churchyard. Eventually it was restored and placed in the churchyard where it now stands proudly.

A fairly austere building externally, it used to be fairly open access but now the mine is sealed tight. The mine is situated above the plague village of Eyam. It was a ‘mixed ore’ mine which tapped into the Hucklow edge veins. It was opened around 1936 by Glebe Mines Ltd to produce fluorspar for the steel industry (used as flux). It was then taken over by Laporte Industries Ltd in 1959 and operated until it was placed on care and maintenance in March 1979. In March 1986 the headgear was removed and the shaft capped and fenced off. Today the main buildings are still intact and the shaft, although sealed with a metal grid and fenced off, is still in-situ.

In my opinion this is the best cafe in Eyam - it's probably my favourite cafe in the whole of the Peak District! Can highly reccommend the lime and courgette cake, orange and polenta cake, cherry and almond scones. In fact, pretty much everything on the menu is good! They also support other smal businesses and local food producers. If I ever have friends visiting for a bike ride this is always the cafe that I'll take them to. Not always called the Miners Arms as until 1764 it was called the Kings Head. The present name derives from the many meetings the mine owners used to have here, mining lead and fluorspar, and calling themselves the Barmote Court, deciding things such as land rights etc. ​Since 1812 the inn has also been used for meetings of the Prosecution of Felons committee, which is still in existence. There are many documented parts of the inn's history around the pub, and as you would expect, the inn is also rumoured to be haunted. Reputedly by two young girls who died in a fire on the site before it was built and by an ex-landlady who was murdered by her husband who is said to roam the corridors at night with her old fashioned dress making a loud rustling noise. ​ Built in 1630 just before the great plague found its way to Eyam our historical building is set in the centre of this beautiful Peak District village in Derbyshire. The Miners Arms is the only remaining public house in the village

The Ladywash Mine, situated above the village of Eyam, is a mixed ore mine which exploited the Hucklow edge veins until its closure in 1979. Much of the main buildings are still intact and the shaft, although grid sealed and fenced off, can be clearly seen. Also on the site, there is a large boulder pile from which the odd fluorite or calcite specimen can be obtained.

Perfect bonk stop. Village square has a few cafes that are a favourite for cyclists and runners. Coffee and cake are great and at a decent price.

A pretty village with a small selection of shops and a cafe. During the Black of 1665/65 The villagers isolated themselves from the outside world. The nursery rhyme Ring of Roses was said to have originated from here. As one of the first symptoms of the plague, was a rose shaped rash on the cheek.

Best fish and chips in the Peak; hands down. Must visit, but make sure to check the opening times!
