2월 6, 2025, St Peter's Church, Edensor
The original village of Edensor was located immediately next to Chatsworth House, but between 1838 and 1842 the 6th Duke of Devonshire had it demolished so it would be out of sight over a hill. The planning of the new village and the parish church was overseen by Joseph Paxton. The church was built for the 7th Duke of Devonshire. Consecrated in 1870, St Peter's comprises a west steeple, nave with aisles, chancel, north vestry and south east chapel. A 2020 report states that the current church with its 166-feet-high spire, designed by George Gilbert Scott, was not built until about 25 years after the village was completed. It was a "replacement for the original squat-towered church that had occupied the site previously". Derbyshire Council states that "Edensor Church was taken down and rebuilt in 1867, incorporating some of the old Norman" church. Another source specifies that "very little remains of the Norman church".

9월 4, 2024, Hall Leys Park, Matlock
A ford originally crossed the river at this point, and the side became a major crossing point. A settlement developed around the bridge, known as Matlock Bridge, which later became part of modern Matlock. The downstream side of the bridge dates from the 15th century.

Until the early years of Queen Victoria's reign, Matlock was a hamlet whose principal activity was farming with lead mining and quarrying as subsidiary activities.

The Haw Lees (as the area was then called) was originally two fields on the east bank of the River Derwent lying between Matlock Bridge and Matlock Green through which ran a long established footpath linking the two settlements. This strip of land was acquired by Matlock Urban District Council from Henry Knowles in 1898 and the 'Broadwalk' was formed along the route of this riverside footpath. In 1908 the remainder of the two fields, (one of which was still in use as Matlock's football pitch) was purchased from Mr Perry of Manchester for £3,750. Local architect John Nuttall provided a design for the park, and Hall Leys Park was officially opened on 23 June 1911 to celebrate the Coronation of King George V. Derbyshire Dales District Council's Hall Leys Park in Matlock is officially one of the best UK parks. The Matlock park was again recognised as one of the country's best green spaces this year with an 11th consecutive Green Flag Award in July 2018.

There has been a church on the site since Saxon times and some Saxon stone coffin lids can be found in the south entrance porch. The church has elements of architecture from the Norman to the Perpendicular Gothic periods. It was restored and enlarged between 1854 and 1855 at a cost of £1,300 by Henry Isaac Stevens and was reopened on 24 April 1855. The church is cruciform in shape with a nave, chancel, transepts and aisles. The large round stone near the chancel door is believed to be the lid of a Roman burning place and would indicate that the yew tree, estimated to be at least 2000 years old, marked a sacred site in pre Christian times.

6월 18, 2024, Whitworth Park Pond
The Whitworth building and park are steeped in Victorian industrial history. Lady Louisa Whitworth, wife of the industrialist Sir Joseph Whitworth, had a vision of creating a place where people could meet for leisure, recreational and educational purposes. The Whitworth is unique in that it is the only surviving Whitworth foundation that continues to operate under the terms of its original endowment. Once a Victorian boating lake the ponds are now home to an abundance of wildlife all year round.

White Peak Loop trail goes through the park behind The Whitworth. It's scenic but a bit stop-start when avoiding pedestrians and following the gates and signs. If I'm on my road bike, I just tend to use the quiet lane near the railway crossing and rejoin trail further up towards Rowsley.

Up the no-through-lane (to cars) off the corner of Dale Road just over the bridge and to the right - very steep for about 2km but quiet.
