The church was originally built as a fortified church by farmers from Meesig after the Thirty Years' War. It was first documented in 1255 and originally belonged to the Verchen Monastery before being reintegrated into the Verchen parish.

The current town hall of Dargun was built in 1855/56 as the "Red School" in the neo-Gothic style and served as a school building until 2002. It was renovated in 1993 and converted into a modern administrative headquarters between 2004 and 2006.

The exact date of construction of the church is unknown. The Dehio Manual assumes that the choir was built around 1400, followed by the nave.

Here, in the former brewery and granary of the Dargun Cistercian monastery, there is now, among other things, a monastery shop.

The core of the village church in Deven dates back to the 14th century. The church is a rectangular fieldstone building with blind brick gables. The attached crypt on the north side dates from the 17th century. The church's furnishings include a pulpit altar with screens and an attached patron's box, as well as a pastor's chair from the 18th century. Seven carved figures (Madonna and saints) from the 15th century have been preserved from an earlier altar. The crucifix and a carved Pietà date from the 16th century. The church does not have a bell tower; instead, there is a freestanding belfry with a small bell.
