The field to the north east of the road is the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25/09/1066, a turning point in English history. It was here that King Harold of England defeated the Viking King Harald Harada and Harold's own brother Tostig. This resulted in the end of the Viking era in England, such was the loss of life. Though from here, King Harold and his men had to march to Hastings on the south coast of England to meet William of Normandy who was challenging Harold's ascension to the throne. Harold's exhausted and much depleted men were defeated at the Battle of Hastings and Harold killed. This lead to the Norman Conquest of England. The Battle of Stamford Bridge is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. There are monuments to the Battle of Stamford Bridge in the village and on the site of battle at the end of Whiterose Drive.

Open from 11am when I visited in October ‘22. Outdoor and indoor seating. Coffee and panini sandwiches. Lovely setting.

Fantastic and cycling friendly cafe in the middle of Pocklington. Outside space to sit if it's nice and plenty of places to stack your bike.

Fully recommend stopping in at Rachels Walnut Cottage tea room for a warm welcome, strong coffee and some awesome Lemon Drizzle cake (warm from the oven).

Great cafe, worth a stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner

We used this campsite overnight. Nice hosts. Friendly and helpful. The site is quiet. There's all you need - good pitches, place to re-fill water, shower block/toilets etc. We set up two tents and then rode into Pocklington to bring bag fish and chips (it's a couple of miles down the road). When we got back the hosts had lent us a couple of chairs.

Historic woodland dating back to 1086, Millington Wood is a Local Nature Reserve with distinctive chalk landscape. The woods are a delight in every season: bluebells and ramsons carpet the forest floor in spring, autumn paints the leaves golden and red, and giant bellflowers grow up to 6 feet (1.8 metres) in summer. You can access the woods at all times.

A small village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Huggate is surrounded by rolling green countryside and working farmland. There are quaint meadows, cows and sheep grazing in vast pastures, and farmers harvesting crops in their fields. You can stop for refreshments at the pub and village shop.
