The old railway station building was derelict until 1987 - now a private residence and looks spectacular. Few information boards in the open area in front of the building.

12th Century motte and bailey castle constructed on a raised mound of earth surrounded by a defensive ditch. Before the surrounding marshland was drained in the late medieval period, the castle would have effectively sat on an island. Pedestrian gates were installed at the site in 2023 due to damage caused by off road motorbikes. Unfortunately, they aren't working, there were plenty of tyre tracks in the mud all over the hill in October 2025.

Before the Holderness Drain was constructed in the late 18th century, the landscape was a vast, watery marsh. The drain replaced a more natural watercourse that functioned as a key transport route through the area and was ultimately created to reclaim this land for agriculture by managing flood risk.

Easy walk

From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the calm waters. Not far away is the beach of the same name which has been a hotspot for unexploded RAF bombs, which fell from the rapidly eroding cliffs.

Forming part of the Trans Pennine Trail, this wonderful route that takes you from Kingston upon Hull across beautiful agricultural landscapes to the seaside resort of Hornsea.

Cycle path on a former railway line. Flat and almost always straight ahead and unpaved, unfortunately a bit boring.

Magnificent Lions in Hornsea Once adorned the entrance of The Criterion Picture Theatre, George Street Hull The Criterion was built in 1915 ( original name The Majestic) closed 1969 and later demolished but the Lions survived

This is the straightforward ride which is on the old railway line which was joining both Hull and Hornsea with most Villages in between. It’s great alone or with friends and family, it a kind of tailored to your liking be it fast and intense or just steady as you wish.

The end of the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) in Hornsea is marked on the seafront. Leading 215 miles (264 km) from Southport to Hornsea, the TPT is one of the UK's most famous coast to coast cycling routes.

A quintessential village pond with ducks. The former Hull to Hornsea railway, now a recreational Rail Trail, passes right by this village so it's a nice picnic spot.

GCSE geography in action, this is one of the fastest eroding coastlines in the UK. This is the Holderness coast and it's made of a soft, boulder clay. The current erosion is pretty serious with a rate of about 7–10 metres per year. The beach below the cliff is mainly shingle and sand eroded from the clay cliffs. Fascinating to see, and also quite devastating.
