10월 30, 2025, Essex Bridge
Essex Bridge is a historic, Grade I listed packhorse bridge located at the Shugborough Estate in Staffordshire, England, which crosses the River Trent. Originally built in the 16th century, it is notable as the longest surviving packhorse bridge in Britain and was constructed for Queen Elizabeth I's use, linking the estate to nearby woodlands. It is one of the oldest bridges in England that has not been altered. The bridge is situated over the River Trent near Great Haywood and is an integral part of the Shugborough Estate, a National Trust property. It was built around 1550 by the Earl of Essex for a visit from Queen Elizabeth I so she could access hunting grounds on the other side of the river. It is the longest surviving packhorse bridge in Britain, with 14 of its original 40 arches still intact today. The bridge is a Grade I listed monument and is one of the oldest un-altered bridges in England. source: internet

5월 23, 2025, Toot Hill Bowl Barrow
Reasons for Designation Bowl barrows, the most numerous form of round barrow, are funerary monuments dating from the Late Neolithic period to the Late Bronze Age, with most examples belonging to the period 2400-1500 BC. They were constructed as earthen or rubble mounds, sometimes ditched, which covered single or multiple burials. They occur either in isolation or grouped as cemeteries and often acted as a focus for burials in later periods. Despite limited antiquarian investigation the bowl barrow on Toot Hill survives well. This investigation located pottery dating to Prehistoric and Roman periods and confirmed this monument as a rare example in Staffordshire of a bowl barrow re-used in Roman times. Further evidence of interments and grave goods will exist within the mound and upon the old landsurface. The monument includes a bowl barrow located on a hill top on the north-east side of a plateau 150m north of Forest View. It survives as a flat-topped oval earthen mound up to 2.3m high with maximum dimensions of 27.5m by 23m. Limited antiquarian investigation of the barrow located pottery sherds identified as a collared urn and a Roman storage jar, and a number of flint flakes. https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1008710?section=official-list-entry

3월 20, 2025, Croxden Abbey Ruins
Croxden Abbey, also known as "Abbey of the Vale of St. Mary at Croxden", was a Cistercian abbey. A daughter house of the abbey in Aunay-sur-Odon, Normandy, the abbey was founded by Bertram III de Verdun of Alton Castle, Staffordshire, in the 12th century. The abbey was dissolved in 1538. In 1176, Bertram III de Verdun, the lord of the manor of Croxden, endowed a site for a new abbey near Alton, Staffordshire, to a group of 12 Cistercian monks from Aunay-sur-Odon, Normandy. Bertram founded the abbey, like many noblemen of his time, for the souls of his family. The monks remained at the Alton site until 1179, before moving to land near Croxden, a few miles south. Croxden was relatively prosperous, drawing the majority of its wealth from sheep farming. By 1315, the monks were supplying more wool to the continent than any other religious house in the county, with transactions being recorded with Florentine merchants well into the 1420s.

11월 30, 2024, Church of the Holy Angels, Hoar Cross
Sometimes described as the most beautiful modern church in England, this magnificent sandstone building, with an embattled central tower, dates back to the 1870s and was the inspiration of Emily Meynell Ingram, daughter of the first Viscount Halifax, who was widowed after only eight years of marriage. She commissioned the church, designed by George Frederick Bodley and generally acknowledged as an architectural masterpiece, as a lasting monument to the memory of her husband, Hugo.

11월 28, 2024, Ashbourne Tunnel
The Ashbourne Tunnel runs below the town of Ashbourne itself, and serves as the begining – or, alternatively, the ending – of the Tissington Trail: a 13-mile hike, much of which comprises of disused railway lines, connecting the towns of Ashbourne and Parsley Hay. Recently renovated with speakers that transmit authentic steam-powered engine noise, Ashbourne Tunnel is a highly evocative experience that is sure to transport visitors back to the age of industry. Ashbourne was first included in the North Staffordshire Railway line in 1852, as the trade of limestone grew around the town. At the end of the 19th century, this line was taken over by the London & South Western line, who were seeking a line south of Buxton, and connected Ashbourne to the junction at Parsley Hay. This saw the construction of the Ashbourne Tunnel, which was first opened in 1899.
