Besides the Hase shaft, another mine shaft existed in the north of the Piesberg – the Stüve shaft. The coal mined there was transported underground, through the 1.5-kilometer-long Hase tunnel, by horses to the colliery railway station located to the south. The building, the remains of which have been restored, housed a water pumping machine that lifted the mine water flowing in from below.

The Old St. Alexander Church in Wallenhorst is one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Osnabrück. Its origins date back to the Carolingian period. It stands on a pre-Christian boulder foundation and incorporates stylistic elements from the major Central European periods: Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque.

The Old St. Alexander Church is a Roman Catholic church building in the municipality of Wallenhorst in the Osnabrück district of Lower Saxony. It is one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Osnabrück. The church has Carolingian origins. Its history is connected with the legend of De miraculis sancti Alexandri and a miraculous healing during the translation of the relics of the martyr Alexander of Rome († 165) from Rome to Wildeshausen. The church was a station on the Baltic-Westphalian Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela.[1] The church steeple bears a hen instead of the weather vane common in churches.

Shaded parking is reserved for residents; please do not park directly on Grubenweg. There is plenty of space behind it for visitors! Trash cans are available in the parking lot; please do not dispose of bottles or trash in the forest! Sturdy footwear is recommended, and dogs should be kept on a leash to protect wildlife! The parking lot and the hiking trails are not lit.
