Ilfeld is a charming resort town in the southern Harz region. It lies within a protected landscape area and is also called the "Gateway to the Harz" due to its location.

That was great, a great bike path.

Great surface, hardly any traffic. Untouched forest and a beautiful descent with a nice climb. A nice feeder to the Bode Valley.

A beautiful cycle path for mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The gradient is moderate due to the old railway line. It's easy to miss the start at the edge of Wieda.

The city gate of Neustadt was built from rubble stone in the 15th century.

Small distillery that also produces single malt whisky. You can try and buy it on site. There was also a beer that was matured in a whisky barrel. There are also regular tours at 2 p.m. More information: https://www.hercynian-distilling.de/

You almost feel like you've been transported back to the Middle Ages as you walk over the cobblestones toward the old city gate. The gate was once part of Neustadt's city fortifications. Excellent stretch of road between Walkenried and Wiedigshof. Great asphalt, very little traffic and great scenery.
