Whitley Bay Beach, a golden sand Blue Flag award-winning beach, stretches from Whitley Bay North towards St Mary's Lighthouse. It is a popular place for recreation and is regularly used by walkers. The promenade and The Links have wonderful walks with the beach as a magnificent backdrop.

This beach is approximately 1-1.5 miles long, great to walk when the tide is out, however there is nearly zero beach when the tide is in so do watch out for tide times. There is a promenade most of the way along.

The Spanish City's lively past began in the early 1900s as a troupe of entertainers led by Charles Elderton. Originally a temporary amusement park with Spanish-themed decorations, it soon evolved into a permanent fairground delighting visitors with rides and attractions. The 20th century, however, proved turbulent, with financial difficulties leading to closures and re-openings. Thankfully, recent years have brought a revival, transforming the Spanish City into a thriving leisure destination once again.

Heritage documents acknowledge the designer of Whitley Bay's drinking fountain remains unidentified. However, its Art Deco features are recognised as historically significant. This style, characterised by geometric shapes and bold lines, was prominent during the fountain's construction era. The documents highlight the scarcity of other local historical assets showcasing such a a remarkable level of Art Deco detail.

Design: This freestanding cenotaph, reaching 22 feet (12 meters) in height, stands on a circular granite base eight meters in diameter. The top of the monument features a decorative Greek key pattern, adorned with a bronze laurel ribbon and bronze wreaths hanging on all four sides. Commemoration: Twelve bronze plaques, inscribed with the names of fallen servicemen, line the sides of the memorial. These plaques vary in size, with four measuring 45.5cm high by 112cm wide, four measuring 27cm high by 131cm wide, and the remaining four measuring 26.5cm high by 101cm wide. The lettering on the plaques is in raised Roman capitals, each panel bordered by a fluted edge and a narrow decorative pattern. Significance: The Whitley Bay War Memorial honours the sacrifices made by local men who perished during the First World War (1914-1918) and the Second World War (1939-1945). It serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of conflict and a place for quiet reflection.
