10월 25, 2024, Victory Over Blindness Memorial
Victory Over Blindness is a bronze sculpture in Manchester, England, by Johanna Domke-Guyot. It is on Piccadilly Approach outside the main entrance of Manchester Piccadilly station and was commissioned to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. The sculpture depicts seven blind figures guiding each other and walking together; their likeness are based upon real veterans who all suffered blindness as a result of action on the frontline. Unusually a plinth is not used and the figures are situated at eye level to engage passers-by. It was commissioned by the Blind Veterans UK and was unveiled in October 2018. It is believed to be the only memorial to depict those wounded in the First World War.

10월 3, 2023, Statue of Robert Owen
Owen became known as a utopian socialist and his works reflect this attitude. Although he could be considered a member of the bourgeoisie, his relationship with that class was often complicated. He fought to pass laws that benefited workers. He was a supporter of the Factory Act of 1819.[citation needed] He supported socialist ideas, so his views had no immediate impact in Britain or the United States. [35] Eight-hour day Robert Owen (/ˈoʊɪn/; 14 May 1771 – 17 November 1858) was a Welsh textile manufacturer, philanthropist and social reformer, as well as a founder of utopian socialism and the cooperative movement. He sought to improve working conditions in factories, promoted experimental socialist communities, and sought a more collective approach to child-rearing, including state control of education. [1] He gained wealth in the early 19th century through a textile factory in New Lanark, Scotland. Owen called for an eight-hour day in 1810 and set about introducing this arrangement in New Lanark. By 1817 he had formulated the goal of an eight-hour working day with the slogan “Eight hours of work, eight hours of rest, eight hours of rest” (source: Wikipedia).

A visit to the gallery is free and extremely interesting and, in my opinion, worthwhile because it is very complex. Visitors can expect various exhibitions that moved me very much, especially the paintings from different eras.

Architecture in Manchester A spectacular variety of architectural styles makes Manchester's skyline a sight to behold. Modern, contemporary, Georgian, Roman and Gothic – Manchester has it all. The city of Manchester is a product of the Industrial Revolution and known for its original modern approach to architecture. Manchester is known for its warehouses, cotton mills, viaducts and canals and it is clear that Manchester was a city that produced and traded goods on a large scale. Historically, Manchester was the birthplace of both the first true canal and the first railway station, used to transport goods during the Industrial Revolution. Manchester Liverpool Road Station helped the city prosper in the Victorian era, and the architecture throughout the city is still evidence of this today. Impressive sights include the John Rylands Library, the neo-Gothic Town Hall and Manchester Cathedral. Following the IRA bombing in 1996, a huge redevelopment project took place across the city, bringing with it a whole range of impressive and modern building work. In 2006, Beetham Tower in Deansgate was completed and is still the tallest building in the United Kingdom outside of London (source: https://www.visitmanchester.com/ideas-and-inspiration/architecture).

10월 3, 2023, St Ann's Church, Manchester
St Ann's Church is a Church of England parish church in Manchester, England. Although named after Saint Anne, it also pays homage to the church's patron saint, Ann, Lady Bland. St Ann's Church is a Category I listed building. t. Ann's has always been closely linked to civic life, and its principals have acted from time to time as chaplains to the Lord Mayor, district council chairmen and the police. In 1975, the Friends of St Ann's Church was founded from the community's commercial buildings in order to preserve the fabric of this historic building. In 2011, St. Ann's underwent renovations (while the church continued to operate). The work included repairing the clock, bell, masonry and roof. [11] During the renovation work, the church was hung with large advertising banners, which was controversial for a Category I listed building. [12]The church has an active concert program, including weekly lunchtime organ concerts (Wednesdays), monthly professional concerts, and regular piano and chamber music concerts by students of the Royal Northern College of Music. The church has a four-manual George Sixsmith organ (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Ann%27s_Church,_Manchester).

4월 14, 2023, Statue of Robert Owen
Robert Owen, born on May 14, 1771, was a successful British entrepreneur of early industrialization. He viewed workers as living machines that needed to be cared for carefully. The labor movement was inspired by his ideas, which were soon swallowed up by “Manchester capitalism”. https://www.deutschlandfunk.de/250-geburtstag-des-socialreformers-robert-owen-unternehmen-100.html
