Buck’s Alley - a little bit of Devon in Hertfordshire, reminds me of some of the foothills around the edge of Dartmoor. Charming, but go easy on the descents, gravel and blind corners mean carrying too much speed could catch you out.

The chapel, dedicated to St John the Baptist, was opened in 1858 but was not formally consecrated until 1865. St John’s did not have its own vicar but was a subsidiary church within the parish of St Andrew’s.

The heart of historic Hertford with it's castle and old inn at the gateway to London proper. Great place to stop and take a look around.

It is actually possible - and permissable - to cycle through the grounds of Hertford Castle.

Officially the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban this is predominantly a Norman cathedral. It is thought to have been founded in the 8th century, but the building is mostly 11th century with 19th century gothic additions. It has the longest naive of any English cathedral.
