The Catholic parish church of St. Dionysius in Recke (Westphalia) is the third church in the municipality dedicated to the patronage of Saint Dionysius of Paris. The church was built between 1953 and 1954 from local Ibbenbüren sandstone and is 42.33 meters long, 17.60 meters wide, and 13 meters high to the apex of the segmental vault. The church tower is 30 meters high. A tent roof covers the tower and supports a simple, copper-clad cross 4 meters high. The foundation stone was laid on June 28, 1953, and the ceremonial dedication took place on November 5 and 6, 1955. A special feature is that all three Dionysius churches in Recke still exist today. The first Dionysius Church, a late Romanesque hall church with a later addition of a massive sandstone defensive tower, was first documented in 1189 and is today the parish church of the Protestant parish of Recke. A wooden church probably existed on the same site as early as the 9th century. The second Dionysius Church, belonging to the Catholic parish of Recke, was built in 1752 and today serves as the parish's youth center.
